Legal Research Guide: Personal Status Laws in Selected Arab Jurisdictions

The following link leads to a list provided by the Library of Congress, which identifies personal status laws and related materials in a number of Arab countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Qatar, Syria, and Tunisia, as well as the personal status law applicable in those territories that are governed by the Palestinian Authority.  Many of these laws are primarily based on Islamic law.

Note that this list does not include family laws addressing the marital relationships of members of religious and ethic minorities in the countries surveyed.  All sources are in Arabic unless otherwise noted.
